High voltage shunt capacitors are designed to enhance the power factor in AC power systems operating at 50 Hz or 60 Hz. By improving power efficiency and stability, these capacitors are widely used across industrial power grids.

Suitable Environmental Conditions

These capacitors are intended for installation at altitudes up to 1500 meters. For installations above this height, we offer specially designed versions tailored to the specific site conditions. They operate reliably within a temperature range of -40°C to +55°C and should be installed in clean, vibration-free environments without harmful gases, steam, or explosive dust.

Product Design Overview

Each capacitor is housed in a steel case, welded and equipped with mounting brackets for lifting, installation, and grounding. The bushings are located at the top, and the interior is filled with high-quality insulating oil to ensure performance and durability.Inside the unit, the core components consist of layers of folded aluminum foil, polypropylene films, and windings, compressed together to form a stable structure. The use of rough-surfaced polypropylene film improves oil absorption, further enhancing the capacitor’s insulation quality.A built-in discharge device safely releases residual voltage after shutdown. Capacitors with internal fuses can isolate faulty components while continuing to function normally, ensuring minimal disruption to the power system.

Why Folded Aluminum Foil Matters

Traditional capacitors often experience faults at the edges of the aluminum foil due to uneven electric field distribution. To solve this, we use folded aluminum foil with a rounded edge, reducing the electric field intensity from six times the average to just 2–2.5 times. This innovation provides several benefits:
Lower internal losses (lower loss tangent)
Higher resistance to partial discharge
Better tolerance to inrush currents
Reduced temperature rise during operation
To further improve performance, we use a specialized soldering process licensed from Westinghouse, which removes oxide layers from the foil edges before connecting them with low-temperature solder. This ensures reliable connections and improved current handling.

Our capacitors are filled with a carefully selected dielectric fluid that is:
Excellent in insulation performance
Chemically stable and long-lasting
Free from PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) and chlorine-based chemicals
Non-toxic, biodegradable, and environmentally safe
It also performs exceptionally well in low temperatures and has the ability to absorb gas byproducts generated during partial discharge events.
